The Shops at Marcus Dairy

February 25, 2013 By Nancy Greger Leave a Comment

I can remember not long ago, going for an ice cream on a Saturday evening at Marcus Dairy and then taking a tour of the classic cars that would park on the grounds. That must have been where my son, Noah, got his inspiration for cars and the classics. Then on many Sunday mornings, you could hear the rumble of the motorcycles as they gathered at the famous dairy. Those days will be missed, but times have changed.

Opening soon at The Shops at Marcus Dairy will be Whole Foods, Eastern Mountain Sports and Petco. Sleep Number and Panera Bread are already open. Whole Foods should be open late spring or early sumer. With these changes brings more variety to the Greater Danbury Area. There have been about 50 new businesses that have opened in Danbury since December 2012. This is just another positive sign that economic times are changing for the better in Danbury.

I look forward to these new businesses and shopping in new stores as well as the opportunity that it will provide me to serve new employees that are relocating to Danbury or just want to move up and into a new home.

Spring Brings New Optimism

April 24, 2012 By Nancy Greger Leave a Comment

Could this be the moment where the housing market finally takes a turn for the better? I believe so, so do other realtors in and around all areas of the country. Spring is featured as being a time of growth, all things new begin in Spring. I believe this is the time when things are going to take a turn for the best. We here at Greater Danbury Homes have a wide selection of appealing homes that we believe is a right fit for new, and seasoned home buyers.

In a recent blog post, we talked about the job growth here in the Danbury area and we are pleased to know that our city is continuing to grow. With that we share the same optimism as many other realtors do in the housing market. We believe it’s only a matter of time before things really kick off.

I tell some of my clients “listen this home has a lot of potential, but it needs some TLC” (tender love and care). Maybe if we look at the way in which we buy homes, like this commenter stated in an interesting point during a recent article in NPR, “The New Rules of Homeownership in the 21st Century  [J. Varnie Barker] discusses more sustainability in our finances and really zero’s in on creating wealth from our homes.” I think there are many ways we can look at that statement.

1) A potential “fixer-upper” might just be a great house to flip and resell for a better price.

2) A single family home with a basement that has bathroom connections, kitchen, and room for living could potentially be a money maker. You can renovate the basement, seal off the upstairs, and build new accesses for someone who could potentially rent the unit.

These are just two simple ways at looking at the overall potential of future home buying, and selling, and Spring is the best time to do it!  Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

Danbury Leads in Job Growth

March 26, 2012 By Nancy Greger Leave a Comment

Earlier this month the NewsTimes reported that, Danbury Connecticut lands itself as being the leader in job growth for the state. With 1,500 new jobs up 2.3 percent from last year. This is great news and gives hope to the rollar-coaster-of-an-economy we face here in the United States. With jobs, comes new people, new employees to the area; out with the old and in with the new. This is a perfect time to either put your house on the market, or find something new. Spring is in the air and with the last couple of weeks being sunny and bright the weather adds to the hunt for something new. The job increase sparks new potential in the local area, as well as bringing the possibility of a new neighbor or two.

This breathe of fresh hope has the Danbury Fair Mall opening new shops; while Goodrich Corp, Pitney Bowes, and Boehringer Ingelheim announce major expansions. I think it is safe to say Danbury is looking at becoming the next best place for new home owners to live. I am excited to see such a great effort from this city which I have called home for more than 18 years, jobs are something we all need now-a-days. So let’s continue to make Danbury the city we know and love it to be.

What are your thoughts on new jobs being added to Danbury, and the effects it’ll have on the housing market?

Must Dos for Sellers

April 27, 2011 By Nancy Greger Leave a Comment

There are a few things I’ve noticed that are a must dos for anyone selling their home. The market is picking up and I’ve been previewing a number of homes lately. As a realtor, if you are selling your home please follow these few tips to help ensure that you have a good experience.

  1. Don’t leave jewelry or other valuables lying around. Close the jewelry box and keep the dressers clear. Above all, don’t leave cash out in the open.
  2. If you have a pet, please keep them clean. Make sure the litter box is cleaned out and the doggy beds have been washed. Try to keep odors to a minimum. As a pet owner myself, you may not realize that your home has that “pet odor.” I suggest asking a good friend if they notice any odor.
  3. If you have personal collections and collectibles, please pack and put them away. Not everyone’s personal collections appeal to others. I recently saw a house full of clowns, paintings, statues, you name it. Another had dolls, but they just moved the collection to the basement instead of packing away. Quite a surprise when I walked down the stairs. This is true for your photos too. Any way to help neutralize and un-personalize a home, the better. You want the potential buyers to picture themselves living in your house.

Nancy and Matt - Many thanks for all you did to make this emotionally difficult process as painless as possible. Personally I would just like to say how deeply I appreciate both your professionalism and your thoughtfulness. Mostly though, I’m glad that you consider the sale to have been a success, and that you had a chance to share in the stories of the wonderful times our family spent at that lovely spot on the lake.

This was a very successful effort from our point of view and we want to let you and Nancy know how much we thoroughly appreciate your professionalism, attention to detail and efficiency. Your turnkey approach made things so much more manageable for us. We don’t know how we would have done this without you! You were also both a real pleasure to deal with.
